Flash test
good morning everyone!

I'm still making progress on my new website. Since it's still extremely quiet at work I'm spending my days learning Flash. That's right, my design just begs for a Flash site if I want all the little man animated.

Anyway, here is a rough early test with the little creatures animated as buttons, I created an over and a down state for all of them so please: try them out! :)

Weee, they're so cute! They do 'flinch' back to their original state a little fast when you mouse-out or click; and the green guy has a little white spot underneath him that disappears when you mouse-over. Last but not least the guy with the glasses seems a little too jittery in his movement. :o

It's far from perfect yet, I know. As for the flincing back to the original state when you mouse out or click: I have yet to learn to have reverse animation added to the actionscript to actually make smooth transitions there.. :x

Oh I see damanique also found the little white bit ;)

(Somehow I mistyped that "shite but" instead of "white bit" first time I typed it, I wasn't planning on repeating it but it made me laugh ;))

That is SO cute! The cutest website I've ever seen.

Hmmm... my general dislike for pink is not threatened here.
Yeah, so I may not be completely objective, but I don't like the pink guy. He's sitting there, all quiet and sad, like a little emo-kid. But if you hold your mouse over him, then all of the sudden he's Mr. Happy. That's what I call an attention-whore.
So to me the difference between the two emotions are too big. Also, I don't like a sad face in general. Not because it's a negative emotion, but because it's passive. You want people to become active and engaged when looking at your site, so that they'll do something to contact you. Quiet, sulking guy doesn't help with that. It's okay to have a (slightly) negative emotion to stop the sugar-overload, but I just feel it should be a different one, like anger or the feeling that he'll explode if he doesn't pay attention. I mean, he represents "animation"; he should be moving, doing things, be all over the place!

General disclaimer: of course, this is just my personal opinion, which, like all opinions, may be wrong. But that's how I feel about it.

Well, you always manage to give me a new perspective on the things I do. I hadn't really thought about the 'drastic emotion switch' I gave the pink fellow. But I guess you have a point here...

Argumented, different perspectives are a good thing, so I'll take it as a compliment. :)
Also an annoying thing about hanging out with scientists: they only mention the bad things and don't talk about what's good already, because that's a waste of time, since nothing needs to change. Result: one only hears the negatives.
So I just want to add that I do like the other peeps. The calm, zen painter. The groovy nerd (which is great for representing design-websites, though it can be difficult to do such an odd combo. But you really did it). And the more bland, 'normal' guy. Which sounds boring, but works for a serious info-page.
I think they're all great, except for Pinky. (And now I've got the Pinky & the Brain themesong in my head)

I think they should jump when you click on them, instead of repeating a movement. Then it's clearer that it is responding to the click.

I had way too much fun with this ;)

Rock DJ was on the radio (i'm at work) and I spent the whole song making the tall one dance, the green and the pink one did the background choir and the chubby one was rapping and singing. ;D All this with mouse-overs and clicks.

The only thing I noticed is that there's something white under Greenie's bottom. Ye see it?

Interactivity and hyperactivity go hand in hand ;)

Believe it or not but I already had a slice of slagroomtaart and i'm sipping lemonade ;) Sugar kicks are great in the early mornings, it makes 'em go by so much faster ;D
